I see what you mean. When you create or reply to a thread (don't use the quick reply if replying to a thread, click on Post Reply then "Go Advanced"), if you scroll down you will see in the additional options a button "Manage attachments". If you click on that then you browse and attach files. It gives you list of file types etc.

Hopefully that will achieve what you need?
