    Assistance for a Merlin II?

My trusty voice mail computer is no more and I've acquired both a 4 port and a 6 port as replacement units. Can someone guide me thru the process to determine if these two Release 3 units are functional and, if so, how to program them to answer my phones?

Merlin II or Merlin Legend? Which version of voicemail did you get? Merlin Mail, 007MLM module, Merlin Messaging? Audix?

The Manuals all say MERLIN II, Release 3. The 2 replacement units I have say Merlin Mail Release 3

I don't have a lot of experience on the Merlin II, but found the manuals here:

The first few pages cover connection and validating that the system is functional.

          Merlin Mail II

Thanks. The diagram shows the unit I used to have - Model MM02 - a horizontal PC - manufacture date unknown - with a Conner hard drive

Now I have two replacement units that look like vertical (upright) PCs: Model MM04 (the 4 port unit - manufacture date 1996 - Seagate hard drive) and MM06 (the 6 port unit - manufacture date 1997 - hard drive unknown because I've yet to open the unit).

Both replacement units will accept incoming calls, with silence where the day/night greeting normally plays, followed by "Transferring call, please hold,' which does play, followed by my music on hold, which also still plays.

Then it's ring, ring, ring, until I hang up when making the in-coming call from my cell phone.

Does the manufacture date make them Merlin Legend or do they remain Merlin II?

I have the units connected to a power supply with ring generator board, processing module board, 408 board, 012 board, 008 board and a second 408 board.

          Your assistance is most appreciated

Pretty sure that your replacement units were designed for Merlin Legend - they are not receiving the "mode codes" from the Merlin II control unit that tell them how to handle the call that they have just answered - route to auto attendant, log into voicemail, answer with a specific mailbox, etc. Without these mode codes, the default action is to play "transferring to Operator" and send to the Call Answer Service Operator extension (default 768)

See if this is your replacement voicemail unit:

If so, it is designed for Merlin Legend and Magix, not Merlin II

Ok. Now I have to get my phone unit console to talk with the voice mail computer.
