Avaya IP phone 1608 loses configuration after reboot/power failure

    Hello there,

I've encountered a problem with a phone of ours, the model is an Avaya 1608 IP phone and a few days back it started giving problems, after power failure or after rebooting it loses it's configuration. For example, when one of the two situations said occurs, the phone loses it's static IP address and extension number and so on (every configuration vanishes). We've tried through DHCP option and it acquires IP address with no problem at all and extension number it's inserted and it works, but for some reason if the phone loses power or it reboots the procedure has to be always repeted and that doesn't make any sense specially for people who don't understand nothing about networking or computers.

I'm inclined that the memory chip of the phone (eeprom) has some kind of problem or even "dead"...

Does anyone ever experienced such a behaviour on an Avaya IP phone?

    Thanks in advance

    Best regards

I suspect that you may be right - general if something is wrong with the system configuration or connection Avaya IP phones will always tenaciously go back to the last working set of details that they had (IP addresses, extension, etc).

If possible I would test by replacing the phone with another to see if the problem persists - that at least would identify whether it is a configuration/connection issue or a problem specific to that phone set.
