can't dial by number off the auto attendant
any ideas

Do you have it enabled on the auto attendant? You need to make sure you have "Direct Dial-By-Number" checked off on the Auto-Attendant tab for the selected Auto-Attendant. You also need to make sure that the number under Actions has the correct action selected. So if your extensions start with 2XX you need the action for button 2 to be "DialByNumber"

I don't think "Direct Dial by Number" was an option back in Release 5.
