    IP Office R5 and gmail

I have stepped into a position here at a school, that is using old IP Office R5.

They have an exchange server running, that they want to get rid of at some point all together, because they now use Google for Business, and have a gmail domain.

I attempted to switch extensions voicemail to email over from the local exchange email address to their gmail domain address. Avaya is still sending with the exchange email account.

Because emails were and are forwarding from exchange to gmail, I was trying to eliminate the step of all voicemails hitting exchange then forwarding to gmail, but now no one is getting voicemails forwarded.

I really have no idea what I'm doing here other than learning as I go. I have no prior voip experience and this is something lumped into what falls under my scope of work.

You're going to need an SMTP relay for this to work, you can get rid of the exchange server but you'll still need something on a local server to create the secure connection that gmail requires since the IP Office doesn't support this natively. I've used stunnel in the past for this and it works great and requires very little configuration -

Home page for stunnel: a multiplatform GNU/GPL-licensed proxy encrypting arbitrary TCP connections with SSL/TLS.
