ip500v2 can not connect to internet via WAN

    ip500v2 can not connect to internet via WAN

    Hi


    We have just taken over a new building and it comes with an IP500v2.
    It is set with the following

    Lan 1 192.168.42.1 - Running a DHCP server, all phones connect to this via switch. All work fine

    Lan2 /WAN 192.168.1.250 Running as DIalin ( option in settings ) connected directly to router

    The problem is we can't seem to get the IP500v2 to get on the internet. I have set the default gateway in the IP Routes section, but nothing seems to help.

    We would it to work so we can get voicemail to email and so that the extra ethernet ports on the phones would work as connections to the internet

    What do your route options look like? Make sure your 0.0.0.0 route has a destination of LAN2 or WAN (whatever it's labeled in the Manager software.) Then make sure you can ping the default gateway you're connecting to from the System Status software using LAN2.

      So IP routes are as follows

      yeah i can ping 192.168.1.254 from ping command via LAN2 and it comes back as receiving the results

        Sounds like it's working fine, what happens if you try to ping 8.8.8.8 from LAN2? If that works too then what is the issue?

          Yes pinging the Google DNS servers gives a response. I am new to this system so am just getting to grips with it. I should have elaborated more as to why i thought it could not get onto the internet. The voicemail to email would not work when the smtp server was on LAN2, so I have had patch our exchange server into the LAN1 subnet and that seems to have solved that problem. The second reason I didn't think it was working was the Ethernet port on the phones for a computer would not give internet access thru it. They would get an IP address from the DHCP server on LAN1 but no route to the internet.

          I am guessing now that the lan2 is connected to the internet but that the IP routes are wrong for lan1 to get access as well?

            I wouldn't usually recommend the IP Office work like this, it's not a very good firewall/router but I think it's possible. When you get an IP address on a computer plugged in behind a phone does it show the IP Office as the default gateway?

            Is there any reason you're not just keeping the IP Office LAN on the data network and using LLDP to keep the phones on a separate VLAN? Or you can setup your DHCP server on the data network to provision the phones, take that job from the IP Office, and keep it all one flat network?

              Ah right that makes sense.

              Yeah it comes up with the correct info from the DHCP server, Default Gateway is the IP of the PBX 192.168.42.1 but can't get out onto internet.

              The only reason that I have not moved them all over to the same range is I am unsure as to how to reprogram/change theses Avaya phones, need to do some more research. If that is what you recommend then it is something I will do.

              All the phones pick up there network address via DHCP, but how do I change the IP address of the PBX that the phones will be looking to register with.

                The phones should usually get DHCP from the IP Office, you would want to disable DHCP on that and leave it on whatever you're currently using (a domain controller, firewall, router, etc.) What model phones are you currently using and what version of IP Office? Typically we add option 242 as a string or ASCII option to our DHCP server with the following value-

                MCIPADD=[IP Office LAN address],MCPORT=1719,HTTPSRVR=[File server address]

                That's all one line with no spaces, the file server address is usually the IP Office on newer versions (this value should be set on the System->LAN1 tab in the IP Office anyway.)
