Text is huge/lots of white space

The text on most pages is very large and there is a lot of white spaces. I assume the side bars are to allow the site to display on a number of browsers and resolutions. But it means that there is a lot of nothing showing. Lots of scrolling needed to see all the content.

I would prefer a smaller font and getting rid of some of the white space (at the expense of making it look pretty?). This would allow faster scanning and, particular when looking at search results, may allow more on screen at one time.

Use of white space and fonts

Although we understand that the look and feel of the website is not ideal for everyone, it was designed to meet the Americans with Disabilities guidelines. We will be doing some tweaking here and there, but there are no current plans to change the fundamental look and feel of the web. We appreciate the feedback.
