Converting 9640 to SIP firmware

I will appreciate your help on this issue.

I have quite a number of the 9640 IP Phones, running the H323 firmware, which I want to convert to SIP. I obtained the SIP fimware and application file from the Avaya website. However, I loaded these files into a webserver and configured the phone with SIG = SIP and other IP Addresses, including the HTTP server IP address but the phone would not load these software from the server.

I noticed that boot file version on the 9640 phone is hb96xxua3_1_05_S.bin while the latest boot file (as downloaded from the Avaya website) reads hb96xxua3_00.bin.

Kindly help me on this.

Are you converting all of your phones from H.323 to SIP? If YES, then are you using the the included 96xxupgrade.txt file in the zip file. If NO, did you download the alternate_96xxupgrade.txt file, rename it to 96xxupgrade.txt, and use it?

Did you check your http server logs to see if it is receiving/sending the correct files?

Thank you very much for your reply. I was trying to convert all my 9640 phones to SIP

I found out that the problem was with my HTTP server, as the phone in question was not able to access the server to collect the necessary file for the conversion. I used another server and the process of conversion was successful. Although the phone keeps asking for Username and Password after successful initialization.

However, I am now faced with another challenge; the whole idea is to have these phones, running SIP, register to a third party SIP server (Asterisk), but I am having problems configuring the 46xxsettings.txt (if that is correct) file to autoprovision the 9640 phone for registration with the Asterisk server.

I will appreciate your assistance on this.

Avaya has not documented the interoperability of 9600-series IP Deskphones running SIP software with anything other than Avaya Aura or Avaya IP Office (in branch mode). Officially, anything else is NOT a supported configuration. While it may work, you will get no support from Avaya in addressing any issues which are encountered.
