I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. We currently have two Avaya IP Office Systems based at two sites. The sites are connected via fibre and are on the same network.
Both systems are currently running IP Office 8.1(65).
Both systems have until now been configured to use our old Nortel ip1230 and Nortel ip1120 handsets. These have been configured as SIP extensions and have worked flawlessly since the system was installed.
Last month we had an office move and needed to purchase 3 additional phones, IP1608i and have had nothing but issues with them.
When first installed they automatically downgraded the firmware from 3300.bin to 3200.bin. I am assuming this is due to the software version we are running on the system itself.
I managed to get the H.323 extensions created successfully and the phones logged in to them, but if I try and ring one 1608i to another 1608i the handset does not ring. I can hear it ringing in the earpiece. Then after about 1 minute the desk phone I tried to ring, will ring and the screen goes nuts fir a second and that's it. Its as if there is a delay.
Other symptoms from these handsets include the 1608i's locking up and becoming unusable which requires a restart.
We have no VLAN's setup so I am currently looking into a possible QOS issue due to the amount of network traffic.
Our network currently has the following ranges:-
10.1.1.* - 255.255.0.0 Static
10.1.2.* - 255.255.0.0 DHCP
10.1.3.* - 255.255.0.0 DHCP
10.1.4.*- 255.255.0.0 DHCP
The phone systems are:-
10.1.200.225 - 255.255.0.0
10.1.200.226 - 255.255.0.0
Connected via fibre between sites
IP Phone DHCP's 10.1.200.* 255.255.0.0
Unfortunately the network is inherited, as in most cases from someone who didn't know a great deal about networking. I will need to approach VLAN configuration at some point.
One question is if amending the subnet on the phone system and phones from 255.255.0.0 to 255.255.255.0 might help.
Has anyone had experience of running SIP and H.323 extensions on the same network? Is H.323 more dependant on the limits of network bandwidth?
I am currently running wire shark tests throughout the day to see if I can pinpoint certain areas of contention that I may be able to improve on.
Any help would be much appreciated.
