    Avaya 9620 Question

    Hi,

If I use an Avaya 9620 handset for VOIP, do I need to use / install at all in anyway any software from Avaya to make it work? i.e. is there any additional license costs?

    Thank you.

It is designed to work with an Avaya communications system such as Aura or IP Office - having the phone on its own is just the start of setting up the telephone system

I plan on using an external voip provider with a monthly plan. Can I not just put the login/password and IP settings of this provider in the avaya phone and leave it at that?

      Thanks

You would need to flash the phone with a SIP firmware, and at that point it's practically useless. Just get something like a Polycom SIP phone and call it a day, the Avaya phones are all H.323 and they're not compatible out of the box with an outside SIP provider unless they're registering to an Avaya PBX and simply calling out over a SIP trunk.
