New 1140 phones have audio problem

I am experiencing trouble with recently purchased 1140 sets that acquire an audio distortion problem after being in service about a month. The distortion is heard when using the handset, and can be eliminated by switching to handsfree. Seems that the phones with the problem work OK during initial installation, but get steadily worse as time passes. We have sent a few to Belleville, and they got forwarded to the manufacturer in China, but Avaya is looking for more examples of the problem.

Is your phone on latest firmware release?
Also, did you try asking Avaya if this is reproducible in lab. Also, send them the range of serial numbers that are facing this problem and see if these are known manufacturing defect.

If this isn't reproducible in lab or not a known issue in firmware or hardware, you may have to help Avaya by giving examples and needed traces.

    hope this helps.

We've supplied wave files - you can hear the audio clearly on handsfree, but it becomes distorted when using the handset. We've supplied serial numbers, and sent them two of our phones. The problem was reproducible in lab in Canada, then Avaya sent these two phones to China, and now the problem seems to have disappeared. They've suggested that loosening and tightening screws on the circuit boards has cleared the problem. We don't really want to take apart 500 phones to loosen and tighten screws; furthermore, the problem seems to get worse if you leave them plugged in longer. If you see this problem, it might be more noticable after a long weekend.
