Block Specific numbers

A client is receiving pranks calls from a specific phone number. We know the number belongs to an actual person, not a scammer. Most likely a young person. The number is real and verified as a real phone using it.

For example let's say the prank phone number is 555-444-3333, the person receiving the prank calls has the number 222-222-2222 . I have read that there is a way to do this through the Incoming Call Route tab in the 500 V2. If there is a way, how can I accomplish this?

Create a short code for feature "barred" if one doesn't already exist. Create a new incoming call route whose incoming number is a wildcard (*) and incoming CLI is set to 5554443333. On the ICR's destination tab, set the destination to the barred short code.

Here's what happened.

I created a new Incoming Call Route entry with the * wildcard and my personal number for testing under the incoming CLI. Then created a shortcode inside the 500V2, example *810 with the barred feature.

So I was able to confirm that my call from my number dropped instantly as soon as it hit the phone system.

I thought, "well, I will just leave delete my number from the Incoming Call Route entry, the new one with the *, and leave it up as a template for future use". Then I got a call saying that outside numbers cant call our center. I proceeded to delete the ICR entry as well as the shortcode, then everything worked normally.

With that said...I questioned what I did, when I deleted my number from the ICR entry, did that wildcard * blocked every incoming number because it didnt have a incoming CLI ? Did it block all outside numbers in the first place?

Would you please explain me what the * does? Thanks and I appreciate your reply.

The wildcard in the incoming number field blocks all calls from the specified number in the incoming CLI field. If you want to block a specific scenario from a certain number and to a certain number, replace wildcard with 2222222222 in the incoming number field per your example.

Yeah I thought it was weird that after I made the change, nobody could receive a call from outside lines. I wondered if it was because I left the Incoming CLI field empty; I assume the system read it as ALL CALLS BLOCKED TO ANY NUMBER (*) FROM ANY NUMBER (Incoming CLI field empty being read as EVERYTHING), and if there is a number in the Incoming CLI then I assume it reads it as ALL CALLS BLOCKED TO ANY NUMBER (*) FROM NUMBER (whatever is in the Incoming CLI field).

Was that correct? I am by no means a phone guy, I am just learning how to deal with these scenarios.

You are correct, the * in the Incoming Number field means match ANY incoming DID, and the destination was set to the short code for Clear Call. With the Incoming CLI field empty, those parameters match ANY call coming into the system.
