    CM 7.0 Upgrade

We are currently running CM 6.3 simplex on an HP ProLiant DL360G7 server with system platform.

Trying to understand the CM upgrade to version 7. Is system platform no longer supported in version 7. I have gone over an upgrade document. There is much talk about running ones own installation of VMware. There is also some mention of an Avaya VMware solution. Does that mean we are looking at a hardware upgrade as well with version 7 of CM?

Aura 7 doesn't support system platform anymore. You have AVP, a version of ESXi. You can download this from the support site. The DL360G7 server is still supported. You require System Manager in Aura R7.

If we are currently running 6.3 on system platform on our DL360G7. Do we need to wipe system platform on the DL360G7 and load Appliance Virtualization Platform (AVP). to support installing CM OVA?

If above is true how would one upgrade given you need to wipe the production system to load AVP.

I do have VMware ESXi version 6 running to support System Manager 6.3 which I run now.

I did some further reading. Might not have this exactly right.

There is a Appliance Virtualization Platform Drive Kit. Looks like you backup. Remove your existing drives and save in case you need to rollback. Install the drives in the kit then AVP and CM. Then migrate your backups into Aura 7 CM. If something you goes wrong you can roll back with the original drives.

Anyone know if I can re-use some of my Dell R610 servers that were originally hosting AES 6.x for CM version 7? I have 5 AES servers on Dell R610s that I am retiring, would be great if I could use that hardware to replace the CM servers I have running on 8800s.

Anyone successfully load an S8300D...? I tried to load CM OVA, CMM OVA, Utility Server Ova (Services port only) and when I tried to load WebLM OVA it failed do to size capacity. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can the upgrade be done remotely? We were loading up the iso to /vsp-template then creating a vsp-sup/ folder and mounting it from there. Will that still be valid?

I don't think the WebLM OVA is meant for the S8300. System Manager is a mandatory component for Aura 7 and should be used as the licensing repository. SMGR resides on a full-size AVP hypervisor server platform or customer VMware.

What are the versions involved? Upgrades from 6.0.x to 6.3.x on System Platform can indeed be accomplished remotely by mounting the ISOs as you describe. Avaya recently announced support for 5.2.1 and later upgrading to 7.1.x remotely using SDM.

You cannot load WEBLM on the 8300 for AVP. Avaya forces you to use system manager.....
