Default Avaya Communicator for Microsoft Lync crashes on start

I've just installed the latest release of Avaya Communicator for Microsoft Lync 2013 which completed without error.

When I click on the icon, or open it via Tools in the Skype for Business client and error box opens for a nanosecond and then vanishes.

Some screen grabbing later and I know the error message is: "lync integration encountered a problem and will close". I can't see any errors in Event Viewer. Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this?
