Answer
Starting September 30th 2022 all US and Canadian Toll Free Numbers used for sending SMS traffic must be verified.
Verification status indicates that your number has carrier approval to send within the U.S. and Canada.
To become verified, a number must go through a review process that looks at the sender – the business sending the message – and the use case – why you’re sending messages. Verification status is unique to the number, which means you don’t verify the business, you have to verify every number used by that business.
Verification can benefit your organization because it reduces the number of false-positive blocks and helps increase message deliverability on a single toll-free number.
There are enforced restrictions on unverified Toll Free numbers used for sending SMS traffic.
After September 30th 2022, if you try to send messaging traffic from a toll-free number that hasn’t gone through the verification process,
you will experience service interruptions that vary across carriers.
In addition, if an unverified toll-free number is blocked, we will not be able to unblock the messaging traffic until the number is registered.
Note:
*Unverified toll-free numbers sending SMS traffic destined for Canadian telephone numbers will be blocked.
*Unverified toll-free numbers sending SMS traffic destined for US telephone numbers will be subjected to daily, weekly, and monthly messaging limits.
Thresholds are being implemented industry-wide for messaging sent over unverified toll-Free numbers to long codes in the US:
-Daily Limit: 2,000 messages per day (resets at 12:00 AM PT. daily)
-Weekly Limit: 12,000 messages per week (resets Sunday 12:00 AM PT)
-Monthly Limit: 25,000 messages per month (Month refers specifically to a calendar month)
All messages, regardless of being successful or not, will count toward the daily, weekly, and monthly volumes.
