Announcements are not backed up through routine backup processes.

To be able to save announcements to the flash card the data port, port 17 needs to be assigned to the announcement board. See SOLN114421  on how to assign the data port to an announcement board. Only one announcement board can be saved to a flash card or removable media cartridge. For more than one announcement board to be backed up, a flash card or removable media cartridge is required for each announcement board. Running the save announcements command for more than board will erase the save of the first board.

For a TN750 or TN750B board, save the recorded announcements on flash card or removable media manually, the saving of announcements is not automatic. These boards lose all memory when they lose power, so a copy of the announcements is critical.

The TN750C automatically saves announcements on the board itself, but the TN750C announcements can also be backed up for safety.

Note: This process can takes approximately 42 minutes and locks up the command line for the SAT session while the system is saving announcements.

Problem Clarification

This document covers information on how to save announcements to the flash card or removable media.

Solution

If only one announcement board is present in the system, the command is "save announcements". In a simplex system (single processor), it will save one announcement board to your one flash card or removable media cartridge. In a duplex system (two processors), it will save one announcement board to both flash cards or removable media cartridge. If more than one announcement board in a simplex system, the command is "save announcements from (board location. i.e. 01c05)". If more than one announcement board in a duplex system, the command is "save announcements from (board location) active-spe/standby-spe" or "save announcements both from (board location) disk or removable-media".

In a G3SI duplex system, if saving one announcement board to one flash card, and a different announcement board to the other flash card, you will have FL-DATA warnings in the error log. These are harmless, and can be ignored, but they will always be there.

In a G3R duplex system the save announcements command must be done for only 1 board to both SPEs and then use the copy announcements 'SPE-A', or 'SPE-B', [target device, ['disk' or 'removable-media']] command so that all time stamps match. If this is not done, the differing time stamps will create a STO-DATA alarm during nightly maintenance.
