Problem Clarification

This information gives information on how to shut down the system.

Solution

A shutdown is required to replace hardware or when a power outage is scheduled for the site.

A shutdown may be done via the Reset System Shutdown command or by pressing the Boot/Shutdown button.

Boot/Shutdown button method:

  1. Use a pen or pin (not a pencil) to press the Boot/Shutdown button on the front of the DEFAUD alarm board to initiate a shutdown
  2. On the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) on the front of the DEFAUD Multi-Function Board (MFB), they will see'M_SHUT' flash on and off for about 3 minutes
  3. When 'M_SHUT' becomes steady, the shutdown is complete

Remote or local terminal shutdown (DEFAUD up and running):

  1. On the DEFAUD command line, type reset system shutdown or rese s s. Press F3
  2. Press F3 and the shutdown will begin when all the DEFAUD ports are idle. To force all ports to be idled, press F3 when page 2 of the form is displayed
  3. When the shutdown is complete, the remote connection will be dropped. If someone is onsite they can watch the LCD on the front of the DEFAUD Multi-Function Board (MFB). You will see 'M_SHUT' flash on and off for about 3 minutes. When 'M_SHUT' becomes steady, the shutdown is complete

NOTES:

  • If the DEFAUD is being shutdown for a power outage, the DEFAUD will begin to reboot as soon as power is restored
  • If the DEFAUD was shutdown for hardware replacement, the DEFAUD will begin to reboot as soon as the DEFAUD is inserted back in the carrier
  • When a reboot is in progress, if the person onsite watches the LCD, they will see the following (times are approximate):

    BTEST (40 seconds)

    BOOT (10 seconds)

    OSINIT (15 seconds)

    AINIT (3 minutes)

ADX (This indicates that the reboot is complete.)
  • If the DEFAUD does not begin to reboot automatically, push the Boot/Shutdown button on TN2169/TN2170, alarm board. (Or to start the reboot from a local or remote terminal, if 'command menu:' is not displayed, simultaneously press Ctrl+c twice. When 'command menu:' is displayed, enter 5 and press Return to begin the reboot.)
