Problem Clarification

This document describes how the Access Security Gateway (ASG) Defender can be upgraded to a newer software version.

Solution

Prior the upgrade:

Make a backup copy of the configuration and users of the ASG Defender is highly recommended. Please refer to KB document: SOLN122910 

To enable FTP server on the ASG Defender:

  1. Type SNS. Enable FTP on External Port. Use space bar to toggle through options. (You must be logged in as a CMASTER user)
  2. Type SNP 3 to set FTP Parameters. Create Client 1 - User Name and Password. (Used for FTP authentication in to the ASG Defender)

To FTP the files to the ASG Defender from PC:

(If you are not in the same network as the ASG Defender, you can establish a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connection to the Defender)

  1. Open command line window and 'CD' to folder containing the upgrade file (let's say it is 5600G-1.0.5.BIN).         
  2. FTP <IP Address>.(FTP to ASG Defender IP address, or Server PPP address if a PPP connection is established)
  3. Enter Client User Name and Password
  4. Type BIN to transfer files in Binary format.
  5. Type PUT 5600-1.0.3-B1.BIN  to start the file transfer.
  6. FTP prompt will be displayed after the transfer is completed.
  7. Type DIR to verify the file is listed and was transferred correctly.
  8. Type QUIT to disconnect FTP Session.
To upgrade the appliance:
 
  1. At the prompt, type UPG 5600G-1.0.5.BIN (case sensitive).
  2. When asked to confirm the upgrade, select "yes" with the spacebar.
  3. Enter the VER command to confirm the software version.
