Version 1.

1. Old installation but recently user starts getting chronic alarms<<MaintObject_CMG_EventID_35>> from one of the G700 media gateway at this location.

2. Meaning of "CMG_EventID_35" alarm is:
<<cmgVoipOccFault - One or more of the VoIP engines in the
media gateway is over is its occupancy threshold as measured by a snapshot: (Channels In Use/Total Channels).>>

Problem Clarification

User was using initially G.711 for inter-region calls. Then to resolve voice quality problem Avaya advised to switch to codec G729.
Codec G729 uses twice as much of VoIP resources as G.711. MG G700 has only 64 available VoIP channels on motherboard and when codec G729 is used they are reduced by half.

Cause

Lack of VoIP resources on MG due to usage of G.729 codec.

Solution

  1. Check if additional MM760 that has additional 64 VoIP channels (for G.711) can be added to MG.
  2. Check if some Media Modules (MM) can be swapped. For example if you can swap DCP board MM717AP (24 DCP phones)  in one MG with analog MM711A (only 8 analog phones) in another MG. This might more evenly distribute endpoints among Media Gateways at one site. Rewiring will be needed in this case.
  3. Also try to combine extensions that mostly used to call-in or call-out to a MG that has a PSTN Trunk connected. This can generally reduce usage of VoIP resources for Telco calls.

  1. Add MM760.
  2. Swap Media Modules.
  3. Administer extensions for call-in and call-out to MG with Telco Trunk.
