Details

Sometimes the link between ERS 4500 and 5500 does not come up on its own and requires the link to be manually toggled to get the link to establish.

Problem Clarification

When you connect two BX SFPs (Part Code AA1419069-E6 and AA1419070-E6) between Gigabit ERS 4500 switches, in some cases the link may not be established. This has been found to occur only if the vendor of the BX SFP is Luminet (as identified by the vendor serial number starting with LUMNT) and the SFP is revision A.

Cause

This is a known issue verified with ERS 4500 code previous to 5.5 and ERS 5500 code previous to 5.1.5: BX SFPs.

Solution

This is a known issue that Avaya engineers verified with ERS 4500 code previous to 5.5 and ERS 5500 code previous to 5.1.5:

BX SFPs: When you connect two BX SFPs (Part Code AA1419069-E6 and AA1419070-E6) between Gigabit ERS 4500 switches, in some cases the link may not be established. This has been found to occur only if the vendor of the BX SFP is Luminet (as identified by the vendor serial number starting with LUMNT) and the SFP is revision A.

Workaround: To correctly establish the link, replace one of the BX SFPs with a later revision SFP. The ERS 5500 Link doesn't come up when AA1419069-E6 and AA1419070-E6 used on 5500 was resolved in Release 5.1.5.
