Details

When performing a SNMP GET on ifOperStatus the status always displays down regardless of what the admin state or port state is of the port.

Problem Clarification

HP Openview is no longer able to manage an ERS5500 running 6.0.4, an ERS4500 running 5.2.0.0, or an ERS2500 running 4.2.3.0. This is because in HP Openview, the management software queries for IfIndex and followed by a query forthe corresponding entries for the IfAdminStatus and IfOperStatus. When it does, the entries for the management VLAN interface show as down for those two MIBs. When this happens, HP Openview does not learn the switch and is unable to manage the switch.

Cause

There is a problem in the way the switch responds to SNMP polls.

Solution

The following wi's track the fixes for each of the above products:

wi00483519 . The issue has been fixed for ERS4500 and is available in software release 5.4.0.

wi00498088 - "5500 6.0.4 IfAdminStatus and IfOperStatus Show Interface As Being Down".  This is fixed in 6.3.1

wi00482553 - "2500 4.2.3.0 IfAdminStatus and IfOperStatus Show Interface DOWN".
