AVAYA B179 SIP CONF PHONE

Customer had these phones plugged into different Cisco switches.  Thus, ruling out any possibility of power supply issues from those switches.

Problem Clarification

Customer have 10 - B179 SIP Conference Phones (POE)

Customer reported that the TOP surface and KEYPAD are getting "hot" compare to the rest of the phone. They felt this is not normal.

Cause

there is no known-issue with B179 hardware.

Solution

The following are there suggestions:

1.If B179 phone is PoE powered, check on the PoE switch the delivered power output which should be compliant with IEEE 802.3af spec.

B179 SIP Conference Phone 802.3af Class:3

Measured Power While Idle (W): 5.8

example of PoE switch power delivered:

Port Volt(V) Current(mA) Power(Watt)

 14    48.3         120                 5.796

2.If powered by the AC adapter, try to swap it with another one.

3.If does not fix, try to swap the phone set.

If customer is still not happy with the temperature, he can try enabling the AES (Avaya Energy Saver) feature at scheduled time (e.g. overnight/weekends) but not during working hours as AES reduces the eth speed to 10MB.

Please note  Avaya Energy Saver (AES) will shut down low priority PoE ports to provide more power savings. You can schedule AES to enter lower power states during multiple specific time periods (e.g. hours, days, week).

That would mean phones connected to ports with AES configured will be powered down/up at scheduled time.
