Details

After making an IP address change on the AES Server SW Version 3.1.2 and then rebooting the AES Server, The WEBLM address was unreachable.
Customer has correct production license file loaded on the AES Server with the proper hostid (MAC address of eth0)

Can happen on any version of AES.

Problem Clarification

When you open the WEBLM and try to view the license file all the hyperlinks were inactive. If you check the $catalina_home/webapps/weblm/licenses folder for the license it exists and has proper hostid.

Checked the log.date file and there was an error indicating the WEBLM at the IP Address of 127.0.0.1:8080 could not be contacted. Verified the customer had full access to oam and cli interface. Checked the etc/hosts file and it was blank with no entries.

Cause

The customer had changed the IP address using the netconfig utility and had full access to OAM and CLI. Checked etc/sysconfig file and the proper IP address and server name were populated. On reboot the etc/hosts file was blank preventing the AES to properly connect to the WebLM address at 127.0.0.1:8080 causing all AES Services to be unlicensed leading to a complete outage.

Solution

To resolve the issue edit the etc/hosts file adding the proper IP address and hostname:

# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain localhost

X.X.X.X      AES1

Then reboot the server at the Linux level from the AES web page --> Maintenance --> Service Controller --> Restart Linux.

After the reboot the license file should be visible in WebLM and all services should start properly and license status should return to normal.
