Details

9608 IP phone

Scenario 2:

9611G Firmware 6.609

Utility server used for 46xxsetting file and firmware downloads.

Customer set Language file but the phone defaults to English and also they don't see Language selection option in Menu.

In this specific scenario customer had the following in setting file

SET LANGSYS mlf_96x1_v132_italian

SET LANG1FILE mlf_96x1_v132_template_en

SET LANG2FILE mlf_96x1_v132_italian

Problem Clarification

French lanugage set is wanted to be loaded on 9608 phone. In the 46xxsettings.txt file parameter "SET LANG3FILE" is pointing to file "mlf_S96x1_v55_french_paris.txt". When the phone is booting up seemingly getting the settings and the language files but the language change does not occur in the phone.

Cause

Did packet trace (Wireshark) directly on the phone while it is booting up and going through the registration process. From the sniffer trace it turned out the phone actually was not able to download the language file because the HTTP server responded with "404 Not Found". For the sniffer trace please open the attachment.

Upon further investigation by the customer (HTTP server is not provided by Avaya) they found the file's name on the HTTP server was not the same as in the 46xxsettings.txt file.

Cause for the Scenario 2: The .txt extension was missing from the filename in the 46xxsetting file

SET LANGSYS mlf_96x1_v132_italian  == The filename is incomplete. The .txt extension missing from it.

Solution

Customer corrected the language file name on the HTTP server; mlf_S96x1_v76_french_paris.txt and changed the SET LANG3FILE parameter in the 46xxsettings.txt file accordingly.

The problem also could be a wrong path (URL) of the file.

Solution Scenario 2: SET LANGSYS mlf_96x1_v132_italian.txt

You must use the exact same name in the 46xxsetting file what you have in the utility server.
