Recommendation to investigate the TFTP servers for cause of no response to the request for the 46xxsettings
For further information the step by step boot process for Avaya IP phones has been provided below:
This illustrates a typical configuration where there is a data VLAN and a voice VLAN on the same port. Other network configurations will have slightly different elements to the details of the boot process
1. When the phone powers up, it displays a test pattern on the phone screen and the hold lamp lit up
2. The phone then requests an IP address from the DHCP server on the native (data) VLAN
3. The DHCP server offers an address and also a string of configuration information that tells the phone which VLAN to use
4. The phone then reboots and begins tagging Ethernet frames with the proper VLAN information
5. The phone will display “DHCP xxx”
6. The phone requests an address from the DHCP server from the voice VLAN
7. The DHCP server responds with an IP address on the voice VLAN and additional configuration information including the address of the TFTP server and C-LAN ( IP PBX interface) card
8. The phone will display “DHCP”
9. The phone connects to the TFTP server, downloads configuration information and firmware upgrade (if available). The phone will display “ TFTP server x.x.x.x
10. The last step is the phone connecting to the C-LAN card and attempting to register with the Communication Manager. If there are several C-LAN addresses offered by the DHCP server, the phone will try them in order until registration is successful. During this process, the IP phone will display “discovering “on its screen
11. When the phone connects to the PBX, it will either display the extension and time, or it will display the prompt “ Ext=”, which means it must be told what extension to use
