Details

CDOM backups are failing on System Platform (VSP).
Running script /opt/avaya/vsp/backup/bin/backup.sh resulted in the following error

Problem Clarification

Local and remote backups are failing when running an instant or scheduled backup via cdom web console.

Cause

There are two known causes for the above issue (where backup fails with Failed with exit code 255 in the logs):

1) The SSH key for DOM0 was not in the CDOM known_hosts.  When trying to ssh to dom0.vsp from cdom as the root user you are presented with the following (which is a clue to the issue):

    The authenticity of host 'dom0.vsp (172.23.21.21)' can't be established.
    RSA key fingerprint is 3e:da:1f:8e:c4:8b:91:4f:78:b4:3e:c1:f1:a0:e2:50.
    Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?

2) Wrong IP address specified in /etc/hosts on cdom for dom0.vsp;

In both cases, the problem is essentially that cdom cannot SSH into domain0 during the backup process and it fails.

Solution

As there are two possible causes as identified above, there are two possible solution detailed below:

1) When connected via SSH to cdom as root user, simply ssh from cdom to the dom0 (ssh dom0.vsp), and type "yes" when presented with the text detailed in cause 1 above. This then adds the relevant key to cdom known hosts file.  When the backup then runs on cdom it should be able to SSH into the domain0 and succeed.

2) Make sure the correct IP is configured in /etc/hosts for the dom0.vsp.  You would need to be logged into the cdom and su - root to edit the file using something like vi.  Once the correct IP address is configured in /etc/hosts for the dom0.vsp, the backup should work as cdom can then log into correct IP for dom0.
