Can't registered to B179 SIP Conference Phones 2.4.0.x

Problem Clarification

After upgrading B179 phones to the latest firmware, 2.4.1.5,  could not have LLDP turned on.

If LLDP was enable on the switch port the phone is connected to, the phone does not come up. It stays in the Avaya screen on start up and does not proceed from there. If we turn off LLDP, the phone boots up with no issue.

Cause

Firmware issue that is causing this "freezing" is because of using VLAN numbers above 255 with LLDP.

Solution

Work around :

    1. Disable LLDP
    2. Change the VLAN ID smaller than 255 for Voice VLAN ID TLV.

Recommendation Install patch 2.4.2.12 (encryption disabled), or install the patch 2.4.13 (encryption enabled)

See PSN004896u - B179 with 2.4 or later releases freezes or becomes unresponsive, when Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) is enabled on the switch port.
