Using Y-Adapter for 14xx, 24xx, 94xx, and 95xx DCP phones with Power over Ethernet (PoE) Injectors with connecting Button Modules.

Problem Clarification

Originally 14xx, 24xx, 94xx, and 95xx DCP phones used 1151D1 (and older versions like 1151B1 and 1151C1) PoE Injectors when Button Modules (BM) need to be connected to the phones to provide power for the BM.

Note 1: 1151D1 is also used for 16xx and some 96xx (without Gigabit support) IP phones.
Note 2: 14xx phones use DBM 32 and 94xx/95xx use BM12 Button Modules.
Note 3: The Y-Adapter can also be used with legacy DCP and BRI phones.

With PoE Injectors:
SPPOE-1A, Avaya ID (Comcode) 700500725 (no longer sold); refer to https://downloads.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/100155587
and
GSPPOE, Avaya ID (Comcode) 700511266; refer to https://downloads.avaya.com/css/P8/documents/101029093
Y-Adapter, Avaya ID (Comcode) 700511397, has to be used with the DCP phones to provide power for the BM.
Note 4: The Y-Adapter can be used when DCP phones do not have Button Modules connected. This would also be an example of how to support Avaya BRI phones that might still be in use.

Cause

New PoE Injectors cannot power DCP (and BRI) phones without the Y-Adapter.

Solution

Simply connect ‘DATA & POWER OUT’ (SPPOE-1A) or ‘Phone’ (GSPPOE) jack to ‘48v’ jack of the Y-Adapter and ‘Phone’ jack of the Y-Adapter to DCP phone. “Pigtail” of the Y-Adapter connects to call-server.
