certificate is in cer format, needs to be converted to pfx format

Problem Clarification

certificate is in cer format and needed to be converted to pfx format and the private keys are not available

Cause

cer was created and the private key was not given so the certificate could not be exported in mmc windows and assigned a password to it

Solution

use openssl command to manually convert the cer following these steps:

openssl pkcs12 -export -nokeys -in server.cer -out server.pfx
