How to gracefully shutdown your Avaya VP or EP system.

NOTE: The Multi Media Platform (MPP) may be shutdown from the Voice Portal Management System (VPMS) or Experience Portal Management System (EPM) Web Administration pages. If it is a co-resident platform the VPMS or EPM can also be shutdown from VPMS or EPM Web Administration pages. The platforms may also be shutdown from the Linux command line interface (CLI).

NOTE: Each platform VPMS, EPM, or MPP must be individually shutdown.

Power off Procedures from the Command Line Interface:

NOTE: On a multiple platform configuration, perform the steps on the MPP(s) first, then shutdown the VPMS or EPM server.

MPP:

  1. Login to the MPP Linux operating system with a user that has root privileges. If logging in remotely it may require you to use a non-root user first, then use the command, su - <user>, to access the root user capabilities.
  2. Stop the MPP process with the command, /sbin/service mpp stop
  3. When the CLI returns shutdown the Linux operating system with the command, /sbin/poweroff
  4. After the platform is down and the power on/off button indicates it is powered off, unplug the power cord(s) from the platform power supply.
  5. Repeat the above steps for each MPP platform.

VPMS or EPM:

NOTE: If the VPMS or EPM is not part of a single server configuration, you must perform these steps from the command line interface to power off the platform.

  1. Login to the VPMS or EPM Linux operating system with a user that has root privileges. If logging in remotely it may require you to use a non-root user first, then use the command, su - <user>, to access the root user capabilities.
  2. If Proactive Outreach Manager or Intelligent Customer Routing are installed on the platform, these should be stopped first.
    1. To stop POM: From the CLI type, /sbin/service POM stop
    2. To stop the ICR: From the CLI type, /sbin/service icrcore stop
    3. /sbin/service terracottaSrv stop
  3. For the VPMS or EPM:
    1. From the CLI type, /sbin/service vpms stop
    2. From the CLI type, /sbin/service postgresql stop
    3. From the CLI type, /sbin/poweroff
  4. After the platform is down and the power on/off button indicates it is powered off, unplug the power cord(s) from the platform power supply.
  5. Repeat the above steps for each Auxiliary VPMS or EPM platforms if present.

Power off Procedures using Web Administration:

NOTE: You may stop or halt the MPP(s) at the same time.

  1. Login to the VP or EP web administration page with a user with management privileges.
  2. Click on the MPP Manager link.
  3. Select each MPP that will be powered off by clicking on the check box next to the MPP name.
  4. Click on the STOP button.
  5. Refresh the page or use the System Monitor until the MPP(s) are stopped.
  6. From the MPP Manager page, click on the HALT button.
  7. After the platform is down and the power on/off button indicates it is powered off, unplug the power cord(s) from the platform power supply.
