Depending upon the possible cause, select the appropriate solution.Check if the ASA message (I891) needs to be re-recorded.Check if another auto-answer device is answering the call.Check if the system needs to be reset.Check if the ASA/DXD card needs to be re-seated.
The ASA message needs to be re-recorded
- Turn off Automatic System Answer and Direct Extension Dial and wait for any calls in the process of being answered by these features to be completed.
- Lift the handset of the phone at extension 10 or 11 (must have display).
- Press the Intercom button.
- Dial 891.
- Choose an option:
- To play the message, press 2.
- For recording the message, press 1.
If the allotted time for the message is completed before you press #, you will hear a tone to let you know the system has stopped recording.
- At this point:
- To re-record the message, follow the instructions from Step 5 for recording a message.
- To play back the message, follow the instructions from Step 5 directly above.
- To exit from the procedure, hang up the handset.
Another auto-answer device is answering the call
Things to look for:
- Verify that DXD has not been turned on on extension 10.
- Check for other devices such as:
Partner Mail/Voice Messaging.
An answering machine.
An outside voice messaging service (in which the vendor providing the voice mail would need to be contacted)
Any one of these things could be answering the call before ASA has a chance to pick up the call.
The system needs to be reset
Caution: System reset procedure will disconnect all users from their calls. Do not use this procedure if you have a Partner ACS Release 3.0 or higher.
There are two ways to reset a system. These methods are referred to as a soft reset and a hard reset. A hard reset is generally preferred, but is not always necessary.
How to perform a soft reset:
- Go to extension 10.
- Press Feature 00.
- Press System Program (or Left Intercom).
- Press System Program (or Left Intercom).
- Dial #728.
The system will go dead for a few seconds.
How to perform a hard reset:
If you have a Partner Basic, Partner ACS or Partner Endeavor in a stand alone configuration or 2-slot configuration, unplug the power cord from the AC outlet for 30 seconds. Plug the power cord back in and retest.
If you have a Partner Plus, Partner II, Partner ACS or Partner Endeavor in a 5- slot configuration, turn off the breaker switch on the upper right hand side of the carrier. Unplug the power cord from the AC outlet for 30 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet and then turn the breaker back on.
If you have a Partner II in a two carrier configuration, turn off the breaker switch on the expansion cabinet first, and then turn off the breaker on the primary cabinet. The expansion cabinet is usually located on the right hand side, the primary is usually on the left. Unplug the power cords from the AC outlets for 30 seconds. Plug the power cords back into the AC outlets. Turn on the breaker for the expansion cabinet first, then turn on the breaker for the primary cabinet.
The ASA/DXD card needs to be re-seated
How to reseat the ACS/DXD PC Card:
- Power down the control unit by either switching the power switch to the off position, or unplugging the power cord.
- Remove the ASA/DXD PC Card.
- Re-Insert the PC Card, making sure the card is fully inserted.
- Power back up the control unit.
- Make a test call to confirm that the trouble has been cleared.
