MPP server did not recover after reboot - soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for x sec

Customer applied BASH shellshock update to 8 MPP servers and 7 of the 8 rebooted fine. The last one hung on boot with CPU soft lock.

Same issue was experienced on SMGR and SM 7.0

Problem Clarification

After reboot system did not come back up and console showed message: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 61s! [migration/0:5]

Cause

Researched this and it is a known Linux Kernel issue that can occur on softboots

Solution

Hard boot the server with power button or upgrade Linux kernel
