Techniques for Efficient Searching

To search for an article, type a few descriptive words in the search box, and press the Enter key or click the search button. A results page appears with a list of articles and documents that are related to your search terms, with the most relevant search results appearing at the top of the page.

The search appliance uses sophisticated text-matching techniques to find articles that are both important and relevant to your search. For instance, the search appliance analyzes not only the content in the article, but also the documents that are linked to it, too.

The search appliance searches are not case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you enter them, are handled as lower case.

Search TIPS

Tip #1: You can expand your search by using the AND operator. To retrieve pages that include word A and word B, use a "+" sign between terms.

                        Example: breeze +edp

This will bring the documents having ‘breeze’ as well as ‘EDP’. The results will be ordered based on the relevancy calculated by the search engine.

Tip #2: You can expand your search by using the OR operator. To retrieve pages that include either word A or word B, use a "OR" sign between terms.

                        Example: breeze or oceana

This will bring results matching either breeze or oceana. If there are documents which contains both words, that will take the precedence in the result set, rest will be ordered as per relevancy.

Tip #3: By enclosing the phrase in quotation marks, the search appliance only returns documents that include the exact phrase you entered.

                        Example: "deploying avaya breeze"

This will bring the documents containing the exact phrase "deploying avaya breeze" followed by the documents having nearest match.

Tip #4: Using wild cards you can customize your search as follows:

               a)     Using * symbol

                       Example: deploying avaya *

This will bring all documents matching “deploying avaya” followed by any words or phrases

               b)     Using ? symbol

                       Example: avaya aura?

This will bring results containing ‘avaya aura?’ where ? will be replaced by any single character. For ex: Aura7, Aura8 etc

Please note:

For all these search features, the results available in the index with almost exact match to the search query entered will appear on the top followed by the documents with nearest match.

Relevancy will be calculated based on the internal algorithm used by search engine where it considers factors like proximity (how close the words appear in the document), recurrence (how many times the word appears in the body and the metadata) etc. Hence the ordering of the documents in the result set will be solely decided by the search engine.
