Voice over IP feature

Type of feature

Voice over IP (VoIP) is a licensed feature. You must have RTU licenses to use this feature.

About VoIP

The VoIP feature enables the Avaya IR system to serve as an IVR adjunct capable of connecting to a DEFINITY switch over a packet-based network. With VoIP, transmission to the switch is achieved without digital circuit trunks (T1/E1). Instead all transmissions occur over the packet network using the network interface card (NIC) on the Avaya IR system. VoIP connectivity is supported using the DEFINITY H.323 trunk protocol only.

The VoIP feature supports the VoIP card concept that enables grouping of VoIP channels for the purpose of management and control. VoIP channels are the packet network equivalent to channels in the circuit environment. A VoIP card has a single span of VoIP channels. There is no need to support multiple spans on VoIP cards since VoIP connections are not limited to 24 or 32 channels.

Hardware requirements

VoIP requires the Avaya IR system to be connected to a local area network (LAN).

A DEFINITY switch must also be connected to the LAN. The DEFINITY switch has the following requirements:

See Configuring DEFINITY for VoIP for more information.

Software requirements

VoIP requires the Voice over IP package installed on Avaya IR.

Using this feature
