You need to specify the formula used by your service provider to determine the billable usage rate, by entering the usage formula command.
This will tell the CNA system how to calculate the estimated bill for the link when generating a billing report. This estimated bill will be determined by applying the configured formula to the data samples obtained over the course of the previous billing period. (Each billing period is a calendar month starting from the day and hour specified by the usage-reporting billing-period command.)
Samples will be taken from your edge router at intervals which you will specify using the polling usage interval command (see the section Enable Polling).
At each interval, the CNA system will use data retrieved from your edge router by the link monitor to calculate the rate of data coming in to the interface, and the rate of data going out of the interface during the time between sampling intervals. These data rates will be stored in the trending database. (See Chapter 2: Reports of the CNA Reporting Guide.)
When the CNA system generates a billing report, it will retrieve all of these samples obtained during the billing period and apply the specified formula to determine your billable usage rate.
The CNA system recognizes the following formulas (where the N in Nth percentile is the value specified by the usage-reporting percentile command; if this command is not in the configuration block for the link, the default is the 95th percentile).
In the formulas, I = the set of all input samples obtained during the billing period; O = the set of all output samples obtained during the billing period; P = perform a percentile computation on the set that follows in parentheses; Max = use the larger of the subsequent values; and Avg = average the set that follows in parentheses.
Billable usage rate is determined by the Nth percentile of all incoming data samples obtained during the billing period: P(I).
Billable usage rate is determined by the Nth percentile of outgoing data samples obtained during the billing period: P(O).
Billable usage rate is determined by the Nth percentile of the sum of all incoming and outgoing data samples obtained during the billing period: P(I + O).
Billable usage rate is based on the sum of the Nth percentile of all incoming data samples obtained during the billing period and the Nth percentile of all outgoing data samples obtained during the billing period: P(I) + P(O).
Billable usage rate is based on the Nth percentile of the set of all incoming and outgoing data samples obtained during the billing period: P(I, O).
Billable usage rate is based on the Nth percentile of the set of samples made up of the larger of incoming or outgoing samples obtained at each sampling interval during the billing period: P(Max(I, O).
Billable usage rate is based on either the Nth percentile of all incoming data samples obtained during the billing period or the Nth percentile of all outgoing data samples obtained during the billing period, whichever is larger: Max(P(I), P(O))
Billable usage rate is based on the Nth percentile of the average of all incoming and outgoing data samples obtained during the billing period: P(Avg(I, O))
Billable usage rate is based on the average of the Nth percentile of all incoming data obtained during the billing period and the Nth percentile of all outgoing data obtained during the billing period: Avg(P(I), P(O)).
