Installing an Analog-line Interface Card

Complete the following procedure to install an analog-line interface card in the platform. Use the Analog-line Interface Card diagram as a guide when installing the new card.

Damage from electrostatic discharge is possible. See Protecting Against ESD Damage for more information.

To install an analog-line interface card:

  1. If the system is in service, complete steps a and b:
    1. Stop the voice system.
    2. Shut down the voice system.
  2. If necessary, remove the incoming power and remove the PC cover.
  3. Remove the new card from its packaging and verify that the new card is configured properly.
  4. If you are adding a card to the system, remove the slot faceplate retaining screw and then remove the slot faceplate.
  5. Position the card in the correct slot:
    • If you are replacing an existing card, install the replacement card in the slot from which you removed the old card.
    • If you are adding a new card, install the card in the next available PCI slot from bottom to top (see Internal View of Platform ).

Note: Do not install an analog-line interface card in PCI slot 6. The system will not recognize the card.

  6. Slide the card's edge connector into the slot and the card's slot retainer bracket into the slot guide. Guide the card into the slot, applying pressure to the top of the card only, until the edge connector is firmly seated in the slot connector. See Installing an Analog-line Interface Card.
  7. Note: It is very important that you properly seat the card in the slot. If the card is not properly seated, the system will not recognize it.

  8. Replace and tighten the slot retaining screw to secure the card.
  9. If more than card is installed, you must cable the cards together. To cable the new card to the other installed cards, attach an unused end connector on the bus cable to the bus edge connector on the new card. You must install the cable so that the colored strip on the bus cable faces toward the voice ports at the back of the PC. If the cable has extra connections or is loose, secure the cable so that it does not snag when you replace the PC cover.
  10. Replace the card cage cover:
    1. Line up the two tabs with the slots on the right, toward the front of the PC, and then slide the cover to insert the tabs into the slots.
    2. Line up the three tabs on the card cage cover with the slots at the back of the PC and then slide the cover to the left to insert the tabs into the slots.
  11. Loosen the thumb screw that secures the retaining arm, slide the screw until the retaining arm reaches the new card, and then tighten the thumb screw. Repeat for each existing card.
  12. Replace and tighten the card cage retaining screw.
  13. Replace the PC cover.
  14. Place the new sticker indicating the number of installed cards over the existing sticker on the back of the PC.
  15. Plug the RJ-11 phone cables into the RJ-11 jacks on the card.
  16. Use the Analog-Line Card and Port Numbering Table as a guideline for the phone cable numbering.
