Message Networking is shipped from
the factory with the latest software. However, if necessary, you can
use this procedure to install the software on a new machine or on
an existing system.
Preparation
- If you are installing to an existing system or cutting over
an existing machine, plan to do the installation during low usage
hours.
- If you are installing on an existing system, verify that you
have a backup of the system information. See Backing
Up System Files (Attended) for more information.
- Determine the following information for the Message Networking
system, either through account worksheets or your project manager:
- System name
- IP address, domain, DNS. This information must be provided
by the customer.
- Switch integration information, as applicable, such as extension
numbers.
Installing the software
- Insert the Message Networking software CD into the CD drive.
- Shut down and restart the machine. If possible, use the Utilities
menu and select Shutdown System. Then press the power button to
restart the system.
If you cannot get to the Shutdown System Web administration
page, press the Reset button on the front of the system.
You need a small screwdriver or a ballpoint pen to press the
button.
As the machine starts up, you see an Avaya splash screen and
then a screen that says "Welcome to Avaya Message Networking
Server" with a boot: prompt.
- At the boot: prompt, type install, and press Enter.
- Wait 15 to 20 minutes for installation to complete.
Note: If the system prompts for information
about language, keyboard, or installation media, press Enter.

or disk type, there may be a problem. Contact Technical Support.
The system displays the message "Please remove the Install
CD from the CD drive and press <ENTER>."

- Press Enter.
As the system boots up for the first time, a welcome message displays.
- Press Enter.
The system displays the Time Settings screen.
- Press Tab to move the cursor to the Time Zone Selection.

- Press Tab to move to the next field.
- Make sure that there is an asterisk (*) in the Set Hardware
Clock to GMT field.

- Press Enter to save the page settings.
The system displays the following prompt:
"local host login"
- Type root as the login and then press Enter.
The system displays the # prompt.
- Put the system software CD back in the CD drive.
- At the # prompt, type autoinstall, and press Enter.
- Press Enter again to confirm that you want to run the
autoinstall process.
- Follow the autoinstall prompts to assign the system passwords
for root, craft, tsc, and craftppp.
The system displays a message that the password changes were successful.
- Wait 5 to 10 minutes while the Message Networking software is
installed.
When autoinstall completes, the system displays the message "Please
remove the Installation CD from the CD drive and press <Enter>."
- Remove the CD from the CD drive, and close the CD drive door.
- Press Enter to restart the system.
Note: If you accidentally allow the system
to restart with the CD still in the drive, wait until you get
to the install screen, and then eject the CD. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del
to restart the system.
- After the system restarts, the system should start automatically.
After a minute or two, the system displays the following prompt:
"local host login:"
Note: If the system does not display the login prompt
within 10 minutes, press Enter to display the prompt.
