Update system software

You can use the Message Networking Automatic Software Update to bring the system software up to the latest version. If you just performed a New System Install, you do not need to perform an update. Because the system software update requires a system restart, plan to do the installation during low usage hours.

Note: If you are upgrading from Message Networking version nm1.0-21.3, you cannot use this procedure. You must use the procedure Upgrading from Message Networking nm1.0-21.3 instead. If you are not sure what version of the software is running, select Utilities > Software Management > Messaging System Software Display and check the version number of the audixcd line. This is the version of the Message Networking software running on your system.

1. Before beginning the update, verify that you have a backup of the system information. See Backing up system files (attended) for more information.
2. Insert the Message Networking software CD into the CD drive.
3. Log in to the system with the sa or craft login and password.
4. Start at the Administration menu, and select Utilities > Software Management > Software Update.
5. Select CD. Follow the on-screen instructions to insert and navigate to the CD.
6. If necessary, a new version of Software Management will be installed. Click Continue after it installs.
   The system warns you that system data should be backed up.

   Note: If you have not performed a backup, do so now.

7. Click Continue Operation.
   The system displays a list of available packages, with some of the packages marked to be installed.
8. Click to mark additional packages you want to install, if necessary.
9. Click Install Selected Packages.
   The system displays a list of packages to be installed.
10. Verify the list. If you need to change the list, click Back on the browser toolbar, and select or deselect packages. Then click Install Selected Packages to re-verify the list.
11. Click Proceed with Installation.
    While the system is installing the software, it displays a status page.
12. Scroll down the page periodically to see the progress reports.
    When the update finishes, if you need to install additional software or hardware, follow the system instructions. After the software is installed, scroll down to see the bottom of the status page.
13. If all software was installed successfully, remove the CD from the CD drive.
14. Click Restart the System.
    The system displays "Press Enter to return to prompt..."
15. Press Enter.
    The system continues the startup process.
16. The update is complete. Test system features by creating test messages and checking subscriber information.
