Setting up remote updates with specific remote systems

After you define the remote directory update capabilities for your local Avaya™ S3400 Message Server, you must define the remote directory update capabilities of each remote S3400 or Avaya™ Message Networking system.

Note: If your network contains one or more Message Networking systems, there are two different ways that you can set up remote directory updates with another S3400 system. Each S3400 system can be set up to provide updates directly to the other S3400 systems in the network (without using a Message Networking system). Or, the Message Networking system can be used to provide updates to the S3400 systems in the network (that is, in a hub-and-spoke topology). For more detailed information about setting up remote directory updates with other S3400 systems using a Message Networking system, see the Message Networking online Help.

To define the remote directory update capabilities of a specific remote system:

  1. Start at the Messaging Administration main menu and select:
  2. Global Administration
         Messaging Administration

The system displays the SSH User Authentication dialog box. Enter your login, for example, sa or vm, in the User name field and your password in the Password field. Click Login. The system then displays the Messaging command prompt screen.

  3. Enter change machine remote_machine_name or add machine remote_machine_name at the enter command prompt, where remote_machine_name is the name of a system that shares the network with your local system.
  4. Tip: To see a list of remote systems, enter list machines at the enter command prompt.

The system displays the Remote Machine Profile screen, page 1. The table for Field definitions: Remote Machine Profile screen, page 1 describes the address ranges assigned to the remote machine.

  5. Press F7 (Next Page).
  6. The system displays the Remote Machine Profile screen, page 2.

  7. Complete the fields on this screen by using the information provided in the table for Field definitions: Remote Machine Profile screen, page 2.
  8. Press F3 (Save) to save the information in the system database.
  9. The cursor returns to the command line, and the system displays the following message:

    Command Successfully Completed.

  10. If you are done setting up remote updates with a specific machine, enter exit at the enter command prompt, press Enter, and click Return to Main.
