Managing remote subscribers

This section provides information about managing remote subscribers on your MSS.

Remote subscribers are subscribers on networked machines who exchange messages with the subscribers on your MSS. A non-Modular Messaging email user can send a message to a Modular Messaging mailbox as long as the message is addressed to the Modular Messaging subscriber's mailbox in the format [email protected] or in the administered email address format, generally [email protected]. The Modular Messaging system receives the message and remembers where it came from; that is, it retains the email address of the non-administered remote sender. The system retains this information for 21 days.

Administering remote subscribers enables your system to know where to send messages when a local subscriber records a message and addresses the message to a remote extension. It is important that you perform remote subscribers administration to keep the list of remote subscribers on your system up to date.
