Initial Administration and Testing for FAX Messaging
Note: Initial administration for Avaya Intuity FAX Messaging is the responsibility of the customer. Support is available from Avaya to assist customers with their fax messaging administration.
This section describes how to:
- Administer a remote machine for Avaya Intuity FAX Messaging
- Administer Intuity AUDIX for Avaya Intuity FAX Messaging
This section does not contain all of the information necessary for full administration of the AMIS Analog Networking feature. For more information on AMIS Analog Networking, see Administering and Testing AMIS Analog Networking.Choosing the Correct Procedure
Depending on the customer's configuration, you may or may not use the information in this section. The fax setup is determined by:
- Whether system subscribers address faxes to addresses longer than 10 digits. Fax-Extended Dialing allows subscribers to address faxes to longer addresses of up to 23 digits.
- Whether subscribers use older versions of Message Manager (prior to Message Manager Release 4.6) or the Aria on Intuity Telephone User Interface. Fax-Extended Dialing works with Message Manager Release 4.6 or later.
Use the following table to decide which procedures to follow:
Administering a Remote Machine for Avaya Intuity FAX Messaging
Note: The local machine is the Intuity AUDIX system that you are installing. All other machines, including fax machines, are referred to as remote machines.
To administer the Avaya Intuity system so that it can send faxes to an in-house fax machine for acceptance testing:
- Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
Networking Administration
Remote Machine Administration
AMIS Analog Machine AdministrationThe system displays the AMIS Analog Machine Administration Window.
- Enter faxonsite in the
Machine Name:
field.- Enter "P" in the
Dial Str:
field.
- Enter 00:00 in the
1: start:
field.- Enter 23:59 in the
end:
field.- Press F8 (Change Keys).
The system displays the alternate set of function keys.
- Press F2 (Add).
The system displays a statement that the machine has been added.
- Press F8 (Change Keys).
The system enters the new data into the fields.
- Press F6 (Cancel) three times to return to the Avaya Intuity Main Menu.
- Continue with Administering Intuity AUDIX for Avaya Intuity FAX Messaging.
Administering Intuity AUDIX for Avaya Intuity FAX Messaging
Administering Intuity AUDIX for Avaya Intuity FAX Messaging includes administering the:
- Machine profile
- System parameters
- Test subscribers
Note: You cannot perform these procedures unless the voice system is running. If the voice system is not already running, see Starting the Voice System.
Administering the Machine Profile
To administer the machine profile:
Note: You must administer the machine profile to test the FAX Messaging feature.
- Start at the Avaya Intuity Main Menu and select:
AUDIX AdministrationThe system displays the AUDIX Command Prompt Screen.
- Enter ch mach faxonsite at the
enter command:
prompt.The system displays the Machine Profile Screen.
- Enter calld in the
Type:
field.- Move the cursor to the
Prefix
field of theADDRESS RANGES
table.- Enter 1 for the Prefix in the first row, first column of the
ADDRESS RANGES
table.- Enter a series of zeros that is equal in length to the length of the extension in the
Start Ext.
field.For example, if the extension length of the fax machine is 5 digits, enter 00000.
- Enter a series of nines that is equal in length to the length of the extension in the
End Ext.
: field.For example, if your extension length is 5 digits, enter 99999.
- Press F3 (Enter) to enter the values into the system.
The system displays the words
Please Wait...
in the upper right corner of the screen and thenCommand Successfully Completed
above theenter command:
prompt.- From this screen, continue with Administering System Parameters.
Administering System Parameters
To administer system parameters:
- On the Machine Profile Screen, enter ch sys ana at the
enter command:
prompt.The system displays the System Parameters Analog Network Screen.
- Enter the callback number in the
CALLBACK NUMBERS:
table.- Enter y in the
AMIS Analog Networking Outgoing Allowed?
field.
Note: Leave all other fields on this screen set to the system defaults.
- Press F3 (Enter).
The system displays the words
Please Wait...
in the upper right corner of the screen and thenCommand Successfully Completed
above theenter command:
prompt.- From this screen, continue with Administering Test Subscribers.
Administering Test Subscribers
To administer test subscribers:
- On the System Parameters Analog Network Screen, enter ch su test-1 at the
enter command:
prompt.The system displays the Change Subscriber Screen, Page 1.
- Press F7 (Next Page).
The system displays the Change Subscriber Screen, Page 2.
- Move the cursor to the
Fax Creation?
field.- Enter y
- Press F3 (Enter).
- To change subscriber information for test-2, enter ch su test-2 at the
enter command:
prompt.The system displays the Change Subscriber Screen, Page 1 for the test extension test-2.
- Repeat Step 2 through Step 5 for the second test subscriber.
- Enter exit at the
enter command:
prompt.- Stop and restart the voice system.
Note: To enable the Avaya Intuity system to use the administration for Avaya Intuity FAX Messaging, you must stop and restart the voice system. See Stopping the Voice System and then continue with Starting the Voice System for more information on how to stop and start the voice system.
- Continue with Testing Avaya Intuity FAX Messaging.
