Capturing call progress tones

This topic provides information on capturing tones for use in Message Networking switch administration. Default tones are provided for each supported switch. You can use the Tone Capture tool to capture the actual tones and determine if you need to tune the system defaults.

To capture tones:

  1. Start at the Administration menu, and select Switch Administration > Tones Administration.
    The Tones Administration page displays the current tone settings for the switch.
  2. To capture a particular tone, click the name of the tone you want to modify on the Tones Administration page.
    The tones-specific administration page displays.
  3. Click Capture.
    Note: If you have not already configured the tone capture settings, the capture settings display.
  4. A message displays asking whether you want to use default commands to capture the tone.
    Note: The Dial Tone, Busy Tone, and Ring Tone have default Opcode commands that you can edit. The Reorder, First, Second, and Third Add Tones do not have default Opcode commands.
    • If you click No, the capture proceeds with the current command sequence.
    • If you click Yes, the current sequence of operation codes display. Use the drop-down lists to modify the page. The following tables lists the Opcode Commands and the capture sequences for dial tone, ringback tone, and busy tone.
      Opcode Commands
      Command
      Description
      OFFHK CH_No. Seizes the specified line.
      ONHK CH_No. Emulates an on-hook condition on the specified line (Idle).
      DIAL CH_No. digit_string Dials out DTMF digits through the specified line.
      FLASH CH_No. duration Performs hook flash on the channel for the specified number of msec.
      LEARN and Channel number Captures the PCM data of the voice and performs an analysis of the Tone and displays the result.
      WAIT CH_No. Duration Introduces a number of seconds of delay in execution of the next command. This command can be introduced anywhere in the command sequence.
    • The following table displays the opcode sequence used to capture a dial tone. Adjust the channel numbers and the parameters to match the switch on which you are working.

      The following table displays the opcode sequence used to capture a ringback tone. Adjust the channel numbers and the parameters to match the switch on which you are working.

  5. After you modify the opcodes, click Capture and Analysis. The results display on the tone-specific page.
  6. Stop and start the voice system for the changes to take effect.
