Telephone Number Administration

Use this page to administer Telephone Numbers for subscribers residing on remote machines in the network. These Telephone Numbers are used by Modular Messaging systems to identify callers as subscribers within the messaging network. For example, when a Modular Messaging subscriber receives a call-answer message, the Modular Messaging system attempts to match the sender's calling party number (CPN) to a local subscriber (via their PBX Extension) or remote subscriber (via their Telephone Number) in the database. If a match is found, the caller is identified as a system subscriber, and the local subscriber is given the option to call the sender.

When you administer Telephone Number Mapping, the Message Networking system attempts to match a digit string (the Map From field below) to the beginning of a specified base address. If a match is found, the matching digits are replaced by the series of digits you specify (the Map To field below). If multiple Map To entries match a base address, the entry that matches the greatest number of digits is used.

The resulting Telephone Numbers must be no more than 30 digits in length and must be unique on the system. If a resulting Telephone Number matches an existing number, the new Telephone Number is set to null and an entry is added to the Administrator's log. If the resulting number is greater than 30 digits in length, an entry is added to the Administrator's log and the number is set to null.

Note: You can also administer telephone numbers for individual subscribers by modifying the Telephone Number field on the Subscriber Parameters Administration page.

This page contains the following fields.

Remote Machine Name: Select the remote machine for which you want to view or administer Telephone Number Mapping. When you select the remote machine, any existing mapping for that remote machine displays.
Telephone Number Initialization Type: This field indicates the base number used in the Telephone Number Mapping. The base address can be:

  • Null: The system leaves the telephone number empty. This is the default setting.

  • Mailbox ID: The system uses the mailbox ID for the base address.

  • Network Address: The system uses the network address for the base address.
  • Original PBX Extension: The system uses the subscriber PBX extension for the base address. This initialization type is only available when administering telephone numbers for Modular Messaging remote machines.

When you create the first mapping for this remote machine, you must specify the initialization type. The same initialization type is used for all subsequent telephone number mappings you create for this remote machine.

The table beneath the Telephone Number Initialization Type field displays any existing mapping for the selected remote machine. The table contains the following information:

  • Map From: This field displays the digit string that is compared against the subscribers' base addresses. A match occurs when the value in the Map From value is the same as the beginning portion of the base address. When a match occurs, the portion of the base address that matches the Map From digits is stripped, and the Map To field value is prepended to the base address to create the telephone number. Leave this field blank to add the Map To from field digits to every base address.
  • Map To: This field displays the digits that are prepended to the base address after the digits that match the Map From field are stripped.

The following buttons appear at the bottom of this page:

  • Add New Mapping: Click this button to add telephone number mapping for the selected remote machine. When you click this button, a message displays that the mapping has been successfully added. The Add New Telephone Number Mapping page displays.
  • Change Mapping: Click this button to change the selected telephone number mapping. When you click this button, you are prompted to confirm that you want to change the selected mapping. The Change Telephone Number Mapping page displays.
  • Delete Mapping: Click this button to delete the selected telephone number mapping. When you click this button, you are prompted to confirm that you want to delete the selected mapping.
  • Apply Mapping: Click this button to apply the current telephone number mapping to the subscribers of the selected remote machine. When you apply the mapping:
    • The system updates all of the existing subscribers on this remote machine
    • The updated telephone numbers are sent to the Modular Messaging and other Message Networking systems in the network. Additional mapping might then be performed on the Modular Messaging system.

You do not need to apply the mapping if you have not yet added the subscribers from this remote machine. The mapping is automatically applied to any subscribers subsequently added to the remote machine.

  • Back: Click this button to return to the Remote Machine Administration page.
  • Return to Main: Click this button to return to the Administration menu.
  • Help: Click this button to get information about completing this page.
