Replacing system components

The field-replaceable units for the S3400-family server vary depending on the model as follows:

• Messaging Application Server (including optional supplementary servers that are provided by Avaya Inc.)
• Message Storage Server (standard or high-availability configuration)

Messaging Application Server (MAS) components

You can have several Messaging Application Servers (MAS) in an Avaya Modular Messaging system. Optional supplementary servers that are provided by Avaya Inc. also use this same hardware. For this type of unit, the following components can be replaced on site:

• Circuit cards:
  • Port boards including:
    • Digital Set Emulation (DSE) switch integration card
    • Analog port board (4-port and 12-port versions)
    • T1 or E1 cards for QSIG switch integration
  • Nonintegrated video and LAN model only:
  • Network interface card (NIC)
  • Video card
• Disk drive cable
• DVD drive
• Fans
• IDE disk drive
• Internal cable for fan power
• LED front panel or its motherboard cable
• Memory module
• Power supply

If any other internal components fail (such as the motherboard), the entire machine must be replaced. See Machine replacement for this procedure.

Message Storage Server (MSS) components

The Message Storage Server (MSS) is offered in two configurations: standard (MSS-S) and high-availability (MSS-H). The field-replaceable components differ slightly between models.

For either model, the following components can be replaced on site:

• Circuit cards:
  • Remote maintenance board (RMB)
  • MSS-H only: SCSI RAID controller board
  • Nonintegrated video and LAN model only:
  • Network interface card (NIC)
  • Video card
• DVD-RAM drive
• Fans
• Internal cables including:
  • Disk drive cables
  • Other internal cables including fan power, RMB reset cable, and the SCSI cable group (MSS-H only)
• LED front panel or its motherboard cable
• Memory module

If any other internal components fail (such as the motherboard or the SCSI drive backplane), the entire machine must be replaced. See Machine replacement for this procedure.

MSS-S additional replaceable units

The following additional components can be replaced on site:

• IDE RAID drives
• Standard power supply

MSS-H additional replaceable units

The following additional components can be replaced on site:

• SCSI RAID controller card - see Circuit card replacement (MSS)
• SCSI RAID drives
• SCSI fan tray
• Redundant power supply
