You can replace the front LED panel or its motherboard cable on
a Messaging Application Server (MAS) or Message Storage Server (MSS):
Replacing the motherboard to LED panel
cable
The front LED panel cable connection varies depending on the type
of motherboard that is in the server.
To replace the motherboard to LED panel cable:
- Verify that the replacement equipment is on site and appears
to be in usable condition, with no obvious shipping damage.
- Shut down the system and unplug the AC
power cords.
- Remove the front bezel and top cover.
- Remove the circuit card hold-down bracket.
- Remove the old motherboard to LED panel cable as follows. See
figure Replacing the motherboard to LED panel
cable.
- Open the tie-down strap that dresses the cables to the front
LED panel.
- Unplug the cable from the J4 connector on the LED
panel.
- Remove the cable from the tie-down strap.
- Unplug the other end of the LED panel cable from the motherboard.
- Nonintegrated video and LAN model: Unplug the ribbon
cable from the J8H1 Front Panel connector.
- Integrated video and LAN model:
- Unplug the translator board that is connected to the
Front Panel connector on the motherboard.
- Unplug the ribbon cable from the translator board.
Note: In an MAS, you might need to remove
some port boards to access the Front Panel
connector on the motherboard. If needed, see Circuit
card replacement (MAS).
|
- Note how the LED panel cable is dressed behind or under
the motherboard.
- Remove the old cable. Set it aside.
- Install the new cable by reversing the removal steps (see Step
5).
Note: For the nonintegrated video and LAN model,
fold the new ribbon cable like the old one to dress it under
the motherboard.
|
- Replace the circuit card hold-down
bracket.
- Replace the top cover and front bezel.
- Restore power to the system.
If the system boots correctly, the new cable should be working.
Replacing the front LED panel
To replace the front LED panel in any MAS or MSS unit:
- Verify that the replacement equipment is on site and appears
to be in usable condition, with no obvious shipping damage.
- Shut down the system and unplug the AC
power cords.
- Remove the front bezel and top cover.
- To remove the old LED panel, first disconnect all attached cables
as follows.
On all models:
- Using a screwdriver, loosen and remove the ground connection.
- Unplug the 2-pin cable to the power switch (J1).
- Unplug the motherboard cable (J4). See figure Replacing
the LED panel (MAS or MSS-S).
- On an MSS: Unplug the 4-pin RMB interface cable
(J7).
On an MSS-H, also do the following. See figure Replacing
the LED panel (MSS-H).
- Unplug the 3-pin power supply fail cable (J5).
- Unplug the 2-pin power supply health and reset cable (J6).
- Unplug the 10-pin SCSI drive activity indicator cable (J8).
- Remove the two screws that hold the LED panel in place. Set
the old panel aside.
- Insert the new LED panel and reattach the two screws.
- Reconnect all cables and the ground wire (see Step 4). All cables
are keyed.
- Replace the top cover and front bezel.
- Restore power to the system.
- After the system boots, verify that the LEDs on the front panel
are working correctly.
- When finished, replace the front bezel.
