To reinstall the drive cage:
- Position the drive cage assembly in front of the chassis so
that the slot on the bottom of the drive cage aligns with the
guide rail inside the chassis.
Tip: It might be easier to reattach the jumper and ribbon
cables before you insert the drive cage into the chassis
(pull the signal cables in step 3 through the empty drive bay).
If you do this, be sure to push the cables out of the way when
you reinsert the drive cage.
- Gently slide the drive cage assembly into the unit. To do this,
lift up the assembly so the angled foot on the left side of the
drive cage slides into the slotted tab on the chassis.
The drive cage is properly seated when it is flush with the
front of the chassis.
- Reconnect the signal and power cables to all drives in the cage.
Note: The removable-media drive (CD or DVD) always uses
the terminating connectors on a shared cable. See S3400-H
drive cage cabling.
- Plug in the J6 (3-pin) and J7 (10-pin) jumper cables to the
SCSI RAID backplane.
- Plug in the 80-pin IDE ribbon cable to the DVD.
- Plug in the SCSI ribbon cable to the SCSI RAID backplane.
- Plug in the power connector for the DVD, and the two power
connectors for the SCSI RAID backplane.
- Verify that all cables are neatly dressed, either in the power
harness or under the tie-down strap for the IDE ribbon cables
as appropriate.
- Reattach the drive cage retaining screws. See Removing
or replacing the drive cage.
- Reattach the 4 screws to the front of the drive cage.
- Reattach the 2 flathead screws to the holes in the side
of the chassis, about 6 inches from the front of the cage.
- For rack-mount units, if you loosened or removed some of
the screws that attach the rail handle to the unit, replace
or tighten the screws.
- Replace the top cover and front bezel.
- Restore power to the system.
- Complete the procedure for restoring the drive. See Verify
new drive operation.
