Use this procedure to replace the 12-cm fan located at the front of the S3210R server.
To replace the S3210R front chassis fan:
- Shut down the system and unplug the AC power cords.
- For a rack-mount setup, remove the server from the cabinet:
Caution: For safety purposes, get another person to assist you with moving the server.
- Prepare a clear area as a work surface for the server.
- Unplug all cables at the back of the server. Label all cables so you can easily reconnect them.
- Press the release clips on the rails to fully extend the rail.
- Lift the server off the rails and set the server on the work surface.
- Remove the top cover.
- Remove the old fan:
- Disconnect the fan cable from the motherboard. See Item 1 in Removing and replacing the S3210R front chassis fan.
- Unscrew the two thrumbscrews in the front of the chassis that hold the front panel in place. See Item 2 in Removing and replacing the S3210R front chassis fan.
- Lower the fan assembly. See Item 3 in Removing and replacing the S3210R front chassis fan.
- Push back the two clips that hold the fan in place. See Item 4 in Removing and replacing the S3210R front chassis fan.
- Remove the fan from the faceplate. See Item 5 in Removing and replacing the S3210R front chassis fan.
- Set the old fan aside.
- Insert the replacement fan:
- Slip the new fan under the clips that hold the fan in place and snap the new fan into the faceplate. See Items 5 and 4 in Removing and replacing the S3210R front chassis fan.
- Lift the assembly into place. See Item 3 in Removing and replacing the S3210R front chassis fan.
- Tighten the thumbscrews in the front of the chassis that hold the front panel in place. See Item 2 in Removing and replacing the S3210R front chassis fan.
- Connect the fan cable to the motherboard. See Item 1 in Removing and replacing the S3210R front chassis fan.
- Replace the top cover.
- For a rack-mount setup, return the server to the cabinet:
Caution: For safety purposes, get another person to assist you with moving the server.
- Push in the release lock, the front latch, to slide the server into the cabinet.
- Plug in all of the cables at the back of the server.
- Restore power to the system.
