Configuring the server for service

Whenever you install a new Avaya S8700 media server, you must configure the server for service. When software upgrades introduce new fields or features, you must also reconfigure the server. see Software installation for details.

To configure an Avaya media server:

  1. Determine whether the type of server configuration is IP-connect or multi-connect, and whether the configuration supports duplex, high, or critical reliability. See Configuration overview for details.
  2. Complete the preinstallation worksheet. Allow up to 4 hours to complete the worksheet the first time. You must work with the customer's LAN administrator for the correct information.
  1. Connect your laptop to the services Ethernet interface on the server.
  2. On a new media server, the only operational interface is Ethernet interface 1.  For a server in service, if the default services interface was changed, connect the laptop to that new default services interface.
  3. Open your Internet browser, and log in to the server using IP address http://192.11.13.6
  4. If you are reconfiguring a media server that was configured for another site, use the Reset to defaults screen to reset the server's values to the default configuration before you proceed.

Caution:
Failure to reset the defaults on a previously used server can cause IP address conflicts if a software upgrade does not go smoothly. Always reset the defaults to prevent possible negative consequences.

  1. In the main menu under Server Configuration and Upgrades, click Configure Server.
  1. The Configuration Wizard appears in a new window. Complete all the screens in order in a single session. If you log off or time-out, you will lose the information and must start again.
  2. For new duplex systems: After you configure the first server, you must configure the second server as follows:
  1. If you install new software on the media servers, it is possible that the software will change some of the configuration fields or screens.
  1. When finished, complete required network administration.
