New procedures for R9r

The following procedures and steps changed or were added because of problems identified in the laboratory or during early introduction.

Many of the upgrade procedures were reordered and the steps within the procedure better defined. Check the task list at the beginning of the upgrade sections for the current order.

This upgrade has 3 parts:

This upgrade requires 2 translation saves after the software upgrade: one after theTN2211 optical drive is installed, and one at the end after the TN1650B memory circuit pack is installed.

Procedure
Steps
Notes

Check IP Softphones (R8 to R9 only) [R9r]

Type display system-parameters customer-options and press Enter. Go to the Maximum IP Registrations by Product ID screen (last screen) and write down the number listed in the IP_Soft field. The number must be verified at the end of the upgrade.

For upgrading R8 to R9 only.

For customers having IP softphones only.

The maximum number of registered IP softphones may default to 1 after an upgrade. Note the number BEFORE the upgrade.

Replace Disk Drive [R9r]

Insert the new TN1657 circuit pack into the DISK DRIVE slot.

If you type the list configuration command before you've replaced both disks, the replaced disk drive will not show the correct vintage. The vintage table is not updated until you replace both disk drives.

After the second disk drive has been replaced, a minor alarm for DISK appears. This is because of the memory mismatch between the disk drive and the system.

Add Memory and DUPINT Circuit Pack(s) (High/Critical reliability only) [R9r]

Set the lock switch on the new DUPINT circuit pack to be in the same position as the DUPINT just removed. For example, If the lock switch on the old DUPINT was set to B, then set the lock switch on the new DUPINT to B before you insert the new circuit pack.

THIS IS A CRITICAL STEP.

If replacing, position the lock switches to same position as the ones you are removing before inserting into slot.

Add Memory and DUPINT Circuit Pack(s) (High/Critical reliability only) [R9r]

Insert the TN1650B memory circuit pack in memory slot 4.

Adding memory to the standby SPE causes an error because the memory number between the standby and active carriers does not match. Ignore alarms.

This requires an additional power down of the carrier.

All calls are dropped--this is a service interruption.

Set Locations [R9r]

Type change locations and press Enter.

After you set the daylight savings rules, you must set the locations for all switches. It is possible to have switches in different time zones.

Verify the Upgrade [R9r]

Execute the following commands and verify that the information is correct:

  • list configuration software-version

  • list station

  • list trunk-group

  • list hunt-group

  • list data-module

  • list announcements (if any boards installed)

Make sure everything is working after the upgrade.

Verify Survivable Remote EPNs [R9r]

If the system is equipped with Survivable Remote EPNs, make sure the link is still up.

Make sure the SREPN is working after the upgrade.

Administer IP Softphones within Administer Customer Options and Enable Alarm Origination to INADS [R9r]

For R8 to R9 only and customers having IP softphones, go to System Parameters Customer-Options, Maximum IP Registrations by Product ID screen (last screen) and verify that the number listed in the IP_Soft field did not default to 1. If it did, get the number from field technician and type it in.

For upgrading R8 to R9 only.

For customers having IP softphones only.

Requires init login.

The maximum number of registered IP softphones must match the pre-upgrade number.
