Optional features

The following table provides a brief description of the optional features that do not require licensing and whose use is limited only by the capacity of your system. For more information about a particular feature, see the appropriate feature description.

Note:
Although these features do not themselves require licensing, some depend for their functionality on other features that do. Where this is the case, the dependencies are listed in the feature description.

Description

Adjunct/Switch Application Interface (ASAI)

The ASAI feature is a digital signaling interface that provides a LAN or VoIP interface between a MultiVantage switch and adjuncts. With ASAI, the voice system can monitor and route calls on the switch.

Avaya Recognizer (previously known as WholeWord speech recognition)

Avaya Recognizer enables the Avaya IR system to recognize and respond to spoken responses from callers. This feature also recognizes touch tones.

CTI DIP

CTI is an alternative to the manipulation of a switch via a direct ASAI connection to the Avaya IR system. Applications that make function calls to the computer telephony integration (CTI) data integration process (DIP) on the Avaya IR system can use an Avaya Computer Telephony (CT) server to control ports on a switch.

Dial Pulse Recognition

The DPR feature enables the Avaya IR system to collect and recognize dial pulse input from callers. Dial pulse input can be generated by callers using rotary-dial telephones, or by callers using push-button telephones that send dial pulses.

Disk Mirroring

Disk mirroring helps to ensure data security and availability by providing a completely redundant set of data. A redundant set of data greatly reduces the risk of data loss due to a hard disk drive or system failure. If one hard disk drive is disabled or removed, the Avaya IR system can boot automatically from the other hard disk. Because this feature requires two hard disk drives, it is only available on Avaya IR systems running on the Sun Fire 280R, Sun Fire V240, or equivalent hardware platforms.

Enhanced Basic Speech

The enhanced basic speech vocabulary package includes simple words that are frequently used to provide information to callers during transactions. Enhanced basic speech has been standardized to include the phrases needed to speak numeric, date, and monetary quantities.

Fax features

With the Fax feature, you can send and receive faxes. Fax is not supported over a VoIP connection.

Host interface

The host interface feature is interface software that provides access to IBM mainframe applications. The Cleo TN3270 host interface software provides access to IBM mainframe applications by providing a 3270 Mod 2-5 terminal emulator and programmable interface to look like an IBM 3270 terminal. The TN3270 software uses a TCP/IP connection to a TNSERVER system that physically connects to the IBM mainframe.

Interaction Center (IC) integration

The IC Integration supports the integration of the Avaya IR system with computer telephony services provided by Avaya Interaction Center. Avaya Computer Telephony for IC supports the Avaya IR system, enabling the Avaya IR system to communicate with both the telephone caller and the computer system.

Media Resource Control Protocol (MRCP)

MRCP is an emerging, open standard for speech interfaces that supports the interoperability of vendor systems. MRCP addresses the communications between interactive voice response systems like Avaya IR and specialized media resource engines (including but not limited to those that support ASR and TTS functionality).

Network management (SNMP)

The Network Management feature allows customers to monitor and administer their IR systems remotely, using a network management system. It provides client-side service for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) communications with network management servers using such service monitoring software as HP OpenView or Tivoli.

Predictive Dialing System (PDS) integration

The PDS Integration feature integrates the functionality of the Avaya IR system and the Avaya Predictive Dialing System, which allows the Avaya IR to act as agents attached to the PDS. This integration allows the PDS to make an outbound call and pass the voice and data to the Avaya IR. The Avaya IR then processes the call as it would any other inbound call. The flexibility of the Avaya IR allows the IVR Designer application to provide a high level of complexity to the subsequent caller interaction.

Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) modem

Although called a modem, the TDD modem might better be called a TDD recognizer. This is a software package—and not a hardware device—that can be used in IVR applications to allow communications with the hearing-impaired, in compliance with Section 508 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Two B-Channel Transfer

With the TBCT feature, a call coming into the Avaya IR system on one B (bearer) channel can be connected, within the switch, to a call that has been made by the Avaya IR system on another B channel, and both incoming and outgoing calls on the Avaya IR system are released.

VoiceXML

The VoiceXML (Voice Extensible Markup Language) feature provides another language with which to write IVR applications for the Avaya IR system. VoiceXML is a Web language that is similar to HTML. However, instead of working with a graphical browser to interact with users, as HTML does, VoiceXML uses a voice browser.
